Privacy Policy

The short version: Coastward is a no-login, static website. Your financial inputs and game progress stay on your device. We run no server-side database and collect no accounts. The only optional data collection is privacy-first website analytics, and only if you agree.

What runs in your browser, and stays there

• Simulator inputs. Every projection and Monte Carlo simulation is computed in your browser. The numbers you type (ages, balances, savings, return assumptions) are never transmitted to us or to any third party.
• Game saves. If you play either of our games (the roguelike or the idle game), each stores its own save (meta-progression, past runs, records, settings) in your browser's localStorage on your device, under its own separate key. Neither ever leaves your device and we cannot see either. Clearing your browser storage deletes them.
• Theme and consent choice. Your light/dark preference and your analytics-consent choice are stored the same way, locally, on your device.
• Share links. If you use a "share" link, your scenario is encoded into the URL itself. That data travels only if you choose to share the link; we do not receive a copy.

Analytics (only with your consent)

If, and only if, you accept analytics in our consent banner, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand which pages are useful, so we can improve them. When enabled, GA4 collects standard, aggregate website-usage data such as pages viewed, approximate (city-level, IP-derived) location, device and browser type, and referring site. We configure GA4 so that the financial values you enter, and any scenario data encoded in a page's URL, are never sent. Page addresses are stripped of their query string before any analytics event. GA4 sets cookies only after you accept. Google acts as our data processor; see Google's own policies for how it handles this data.

If you do not accept, no analytics loads, no analytics cookies are set, and no usage data is collected. Analytics is denied until you choose otherwise.

Your choices

• Decline analytics. Choose "Decline" in the banner, and nothing analytics-related runs.
• Change your mind / "Do Not Sell or Share". We do not sell or share your personal information, and Coastward runs no advertising or cross-context tracking at this time. You can withdraw or change your analytics consent at any time using theDo Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the footer, which reopens the consent choice.
• Clear local data. Clearing your browser's site data for coastward.app removes your game saves, theme, and consent choice.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. As with any website, Cloudflare processes basic request metadata (such as IP address) transiently to serve pages and protect the site from abuse. We do not maintain our own server logs or database.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own. Google Analytics sets cookies only after you accept analytics.

Children

Coastward is a general-audience educational tool and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
